As AI becomes more common in products, patterns for successful experiences are beginning to emerge. At the same time, common failure modes are also becoming easier to recognize.
These failures rarely stem from technical limitations alone. In many cases, the AI works as intended, but the experience around it creates confusion, friction, or mistrust. Over time, users avoid the feature or rely on it in unintended ways.

The “Magic” Problem
One common anti-pattern occurs when AI behaves like a black box. The system produces outputs without giving users any sense of how or why those outputs were generated.
